The woman, who lives in Goldsboro, bought the freezer three weeks ago at her neighbour’s garage sale, who said the freezer was used as a time capsule.

The woman — who does not want to be identified — said she was told that a church group had last used the freezer. They were supposed to come and pick up the freezer’s contents.

But when they didn’t show up, she decided to open the freezer, which had been sealed with duct tape. To her surprise, she found human remains.

“My heart was in my throat and I ran outside, called 911,” she told CBS.

An autopsy determined that the person died of natural causes. Police have the whole body.

“The victim was a resident of Goldsboro and her identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified,” police said in a statement.
