“Suphieh’s Taste of Syria,” started by a mother and son team who arrived in Canada this winter, began selling authentic Syrian cuisine Saturday after a trial run last weekend.

“Many, many people,” says Fawaz Alhishan of their initial outing. “Finish food three, four hours.”

“My mom cook, very good,” says Alhishan.

Suphieh Alwais says she has loved cooking since she was taught by her mother at a young age.

Her son is quick to point out who is responsible for the delicious delicacies, saying he can only help his mother but can’t cook like her.

“No cooking,” he says. “Just maybe help mom.”

The pair say they plan to return to the Cultural Market each week and hope to grow their business even more in the future.
