BC Ferries’ brand new cable ferry broke down on Friday, stranding nearly two dozen passengers and crew, and causing delays for several hours.
The Baynes Sound Connector serves the Buckley Bay to Denman Island route and went into service in January.

It broke down Friday about halfway across Baynes Sound during its 9 a.m. sailing.
BC Ferries says a hydraulic hose failed at about 9:30 a.m. The 25 passengers on board were taken off by water taxi at about 11:30 a.m., and the ferry was back in operation later that afternoon.
The cable ferry is the first of its type in BC Ferries’ fleet. It’s a cost-saving measure, expected to save $1.75 million this year
