Man facing gun charges after standoff in Saskatoon

A 19-year-old man is facing firearms-related charges after a standoff in Saskatoon Wednesday. Police were called to a house in the 900-block of Avenue H North at around 3:30 p.m. CT.

Two people were reportedly threatened by a man with a firearm outside before the suspect went back inside the residence.

With the assistance of the tactical support unit, crisis negotiators and the guns and gangs unit at the scene, five adults eventually exited the home without incident.

Police said an infant was inside at the time but no one was injured.

A sawed-off rifle was seized from the property.

The 19-year-old man is facing numerous charges that include careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and uttering threats. He is scheduled to make his second appearance in provincial court on May 30.

Police also arrested a 49-year-old man on outstanding warrants.
