A 20-year-old man is recovering from gunshot wounds following a shooting incident in Halifax on Tuesday evening.

The young man was found in a vehicle riddled with bullet holes on Gottingen Street.

The incident comes less than a month after three young men were shot to death in the city within a week of each other. A string of violence that left hundreds of people marching through the streets of Halifax, calling for an end to gun-violence.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said Quentrel Provo, an anti-violence advocate and founder of Stop the Violence.

“After all we’ve been doing over the last month, it’s heartbreaking that it happened last night and that a 20-year-old was shot.”

Those who live in the area where the shooting took place are shocked that something so serious happened in their backyard.

“It’s kind of scary you know, if you live around here and you hear something like this, you don’t know for sure who your neighbours are, who they’re dealing with,” said Leslie Veinot.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s a very scary thing to have a shooting in your neighbourhood.”

The latest shooting happened a few blocks away from where the victim’s car was found, on Drummond Court. What’s most concerning is that it took place in broad daylight.

“Acts of violence at any time of day is alarming to the police and the community, but especially at 7:15 in the early evening, where people are out and about, it’s very concerning,” said Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Const. Dianne Woodworth.

“We want to put a stop to these acts of violence.”

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and police say they are still working to determine a motive, if there is one.

So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Two men were seen running from the area after shots were fired and are considered suspects.

The first suspect is described as a black man, 5’10”, wearing blue jeans, a long sleeved black shirt and a black hood face mask.

“We can’t give up, you know. If we give up, it’s just going to continue,” Provo said.

“It might get worse before it gets better, but at the end of the day, change is gonna come and I believe that.”
