INGOLF, Man. — Residents affected by the wildfires are relieved to return home to their properties.
Dozens of cottages were evacuated after several wildfires in Caddy Lake and across the Ontario border were spreading last week. They have since been contained.
“The view of the lake hasn’t changed, that’s awesome,” said Cam Mclachlan, a 27 year resident of Ingolf, Manitoba.

Mclachlan and his wife Cheryl own a business in the area and were displaced for 12 days. They were relieved to find everything in its place, even though the wildfires came just yards away from their property.
“This is home for us,” Cam said. “We are so relieved.”

A smoky smell and some spoiled food are the only remnants of damage. The family says they’re looking forward to sleeping in their own beds and having a home cooked meal.
“We have a new appreciation for the simple things in life,” Cheryl said.
