A dog was seized by RCMP and is currently being held for observation after two four-year-old girls were bitten at a residence in Vegreville late last week.
Officers were called to a home at around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 where the girls, who are twin sisters, were found suffering from serious facial wounds “consistent with being bitten by a dog,” RCMP said.
Police said the girls did not know the dog.
EMS took both kids to hospital, one of whom was then transported to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton for further medical attention.
RCMP officers said they are “happy to report that both are doing as well as can be expected following this traumatic event.”
Vegreville RCMP, local bylaw officers and Alberta Health Services are involved in the investigation. RCMP said an application will be made in court to determine the fate of the dog.
RCMP said the dog was a mixed breed.
Vegreville is located about 100 kilometres east of Edmonton.
