WINNIPEG — Manitobans continue to soak up their beer.
Statistics Canada recently released new numbers on the sale of alcoholic beverages in the province and across the country, and concluded Manitobans spent the most on beer in 2014/2015, which was $314,383. That’s up 2.4 per cent from the previous year.
Beer also remained the alcoholic drink of choice for Canadians, with $9.0 billion in sales, accounting for 42 per cent of total sales in 2014/2015.
Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Andrea Kowal told CJOB 680 that the major brands are still the best sellers.
“Most of the beer market still is dominated by those brands, the popular brands like Molson, Labatt, Budweiser, Coors, they still sell at 80 per cent.”
However, he also said microbreweries and craft beers are becoming more popular and growing in sales.
