150 BC RCMP OFFICERS HEADING TO FT. MCMURRAY

Ft. McMurray is fighting spot fires, and potentially looting, as it sets to rebuild.

Now BC Police are being redeployed to the hard-hit area to assist.

“At the request of the Alberta RCMP, the BC RCMP will be sending approximately 150 police officers to
assist in Fort McMurray,” says Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, E Division spokesperson.

He says the BC officers going will be mostly

tactical troop members and traffic services officers. Both are used to being redeployed on short notice for serious events.
Sgt. Vermeulen says local BC needs have been taken into consideration when selecting which officers will be deployed to the fire zone, so there will be no adverse affect at any single BC RCMP detachment.
