Police say three people eating dinner outside Urban Fare on Davie Street around 7:45 p.m. were approached by two intoxicated men. The pair allegedly began aiming racial slurs at the trio. One of the victims was punched in the head and another was slapped.

When the third person tried to intervene, he was pushed into a brick wall. Bystanders then attempted to stop the attack.

“I was just eating dinner with my wife and her cousin when all of a sudden he came and he just said the N-word and hit me,” one of the victims told Global News. “I don’t even know him. I didn’t even see him from the back.”

“It’s very sad,” said the victim, who was visiting from Seattle. “I love Vancouver. I always come here and enjoy it. I’ve never seen such a thing.”

Both suspects were taken into custody.
