A 16-year-old boy feared abducted when gunmen burst into a Toronto home was found safe hours later, just as police were about to issue an Amber Alert.
Police said a group of men armed with firearms forced their way into a home in the Weston Road and Church Street area around 5:45 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators had said the occupants were assaulted and money and valuables taken, with the teen told to accompany the men.
Const. David Hopkinson said the boy was found about 7 hours later and was being checked for injuries.
“We were almost at the point of going to an Amber Alert,” Hopkinson said.
“There’s some confusion, and we’re not sure if the boy fled fearing his safety or if he had been abducted by this group of men,” he added, saying it wasn’t clear if the teen was found alone or with others.
Descriptions of the suspects weren’t available but police said more information would be released as the hold-up squad investigates the incident.
