With a wildfire situation in Fort McMurray rapidly and significantly deteriorating, politicians and professional athletes were among those reacting to the ongoing state of emergency on Tuesday afternoon.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke to Alberta Premier Rachel Notley by phone Tuesday afternoon. Earlier he had tweeted asking Fort McMurray residents to “stay safe and remember to follow evacuation orders.”

The Edmonton Oilers hockey club posted “#OilCountry is rallying around you. Stay safe, everyone” on its twitter page while Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips, who began his junior hockey career in Fort McMurray, tweeted “Praying for my family, friends and everyone in #ymm to be safe.”
YMM is the airport code for the Fort McMurray International Airport.
