Moncton bank robbed at gunpoint, RCMP search for suspect

RCMP are searching for a man who robbed a bank in Moncton at gunpoint Friday morning.

“Everybody was actually on the floor and he was taking money from the bank,” said Denis Pelletier, a customer who was inside the bank at the time of the robbery.

Police say a man wearing a balaclava entered the National Bank on Elmwood Drive just before 11:30 a.m.

“He hand a hand gun, I could not tell you exactly what kind of hand gun it was,” Pelletier said, adding that the man demanded money.

Pelletier says the robbery took only about two minutes. RCMP say the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash but no shots were fired and no one was injured.

Branch Manager David Michaud says his employees were pretty shaken up.

“All employees are okay, I think you will understand that it is a difficult situation for everybody.”

“We have no suspects at this time — we have descriptions and we have video and we are following up on that,” said Cpl. Mathieu Roy with the Codiac RCMP.

Police say the man was about 5′ 9″ and spoke English. A more detailed description may be released after police go over surveillance video.

This is the latest of several bank robberies in the city in recent months.

Anyone with any information about the robbery is being asked to contact police, the investigation continues.
