It was the type of caught-on-camera moment Surrey RCMP would be happy to see more of.
Florence Chartrand, an elderly woman who is partially blind and disabled, was having trouble carrying her bags off the bus on April 25.
But a police officer saw her, put Chartrand’s bags in her cruiser, drove her home, and then carried her bags to the door.
“I thought it was very nice of them, and I was so grateful for him to come and rescue me, because I was really super tired, and didn’t want to climb up that hill like I usually do, so I really want to thank him a lot,” said Chartrand.
Surrey resident Gurmail Rie, who caught the end of the incident, decided to film the act of kindness and share it on Facebook.
“It’s nice to see these kind of things in Surrey,” he said.
“You know, there’s gang violence going on, a drug war, and nobody likes police.”
“But police are trying, and police are doing good things too.”
