Winnipeg man charged in fatal hit and run

WINNIPEG — A man has been charged in the death of a 38-year-old man after he was hit by a car while cycling shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Two adult cyclists were heading east down Nairn Avenue when one of them was struck from behind. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Winnipeg police tweeted out a request for help finding the suspect at 7:40 a.m. with a description of the vehicle involved.

Kyle Nicholas Genereux, 24, was arrested less than three hours later.

Genereux has been charged with:

  • Driving while impaired causing death
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death
  • Fail to stop at scene of accident involving death

He remains in custody.
