Instead of leaving with a new job, Ryan Dickson exited Trans Iowa in handcuffs.

“I just get out there and a little white car comes pulling in and smashes into one of our driver’s cars,” Trans Iowa dispatcher Barbara Freeborn told KCCI.

“I go in and he’s standing in there and I’m like ‘Sir, have you been helped?’ and he like couldn’t comprehend what I was saying.”

Des Moines Police said Dickson was so intoxicated he was unable to finish a field sobriety test.

“With the blood alcohol content that he had, he’s definitely a danger at that moment,” said Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Dept. “So, we’re glad that we were able to get up there and get this guy in custody at that time.”

A police report showed Dickson had checked himself into hospital early Monday morning for alcohol consumption.

Upon his release at 8 a.m. Monday, Dickson allegedly drank a 750ml bottle of vodka before heading to the job interview at 9:30 a.m.

A breathalyser showed he blew a .273, more than three times the legal limit.

Police charged Dickson with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and are reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation.
