Police responded to the building on 156 Street near 103 Avenue just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, after being called to the address by EMS.

The three-storey walk-up, called Christopher’s Place, is in the Canora neighbourhood.

The building is managed by Homeward Trust, a local not-for-profit that works to address homelessness in Edmonton. The social agency said the George Spady Society is contracted to run the property as a permanent supportive housing unit.

The residence is for “individuals and couples facing barriers to sustainable housing,” and has 24/7 on site support with a case worker living in the building.

The George Spady Society’s website said it provides a safe, controlled environment for people who require significant permanent supports, adding “this program operates from a harm reduction perspective.”

Notices taped to the back door listed five people banned from the building, including one person believed to be involved in “illicit behaviour.”
