A Calgary Fire Department investigator is on the scene of a two-alarm fire that broke out just before 9 a.m. Wednesday at a home on the 2100 block of Halifax Crescent N.W.
Fire crews could see black smoke while en route, which necessitated a second alarm to provide additional resources. They were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, and after a “thorough search” of the residence, they found no one inside.
Two of the five residents were home when the fire broke out, and got out before fire crews arrived.
There was smoke damage to both levels of the house, fire crews said, and “significant damage” to the basement, where the fire started.
An alarm on the main floor went off, but fire crews didn’t know if the basement alarm was functioning correctly.
The Calgary Fire Department investigator will remain on scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.
