Last week, the Australian actor was running to pick up his wife, Elsa Pataky, and their daughter from the Los Angeles airport. While waiting he stopped at a restaurant to grab something to eat, but left his wallet behind.

The 32-year-old assumed he’d never see it again, so was surprised when someone found it:

“I left my wallet on the table and I thought, ‘I’m never going to get it back. I’m never going to see it again.’ There was a guy collecting cans in a trolley and I thought, ‘Great! He can have it!'” he said on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Monday.

Turns out Tristan Budzyn-Baker, 17, had picked up the wallet and couldn’t believe it belonged to the Thor star. He went on to mail it to the address listed on Hemsworth’s license with a letter.

“I get this letter from a young boy who said he found my wallet,” Hemsworth went on to tell Degeneres. “He’s a Scout and he sent the wallet to me. At the end of the letter it said, ‘P.S. Mum saw you were going to be on Ellen this week and asked if we could have some tickets.'”

Impressed with the gent’s generosity, the actor invited the teen on stage with him during the on-air appearance.

The teen said:

“When I found out it was yours I looked up at my mom and said, ‘Mom, do you know who this is? We found Thor’s wallet!’ We were speechless. We didn’t know what to do.”

In the letter to Hemsworth, the teen also asked if the “superhero” could write him a “letter of commendation” because he’s currently working toward the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts – the Eagle Scout badge.

Not only did the actor oblige, he also let Budzyn-Baker keep the money that was in the wallet the day he lost it – plus a little more for good measure. The talk show host also joined in on the charitable action by giving the do-good teen $10,000 for college.
