A busy highway used to get from Edmonton to Fort McMurray reopened around 9 p.m. Monday night after it was rendered unusable for a couple of hours when a wildfire broke out near Boyle, according to RCMP.
Mounties said the blaze broke out shortly before 7 p.m. and “made Highway 63 impassable.”
They said it was straddling the highway and the flames jumped a service road alongside the main road while heavy smoke reduced visibility in the area.

RCMP said fire crews remain at the scene battling the blaze, and had earlier been assisted with air support.
Both southbound lanes were reopened while one of the northbound lanes remained closed.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged as a result of the fire.
