R&B artist Chris Brown wants to tell his side of the story.
After pleading guilty to felony assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, Brown’s career and personal life took a hit after the viciousness of the assault was made public. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months of community service for the crime, but according to Brown, further unseen punishment was going on behind the scenes.
In a new trailer for a documentary about his career and success, titled Welcome to My Life, Brown addresses the violent incident (which took place in a car and produced photographic evidence for the world to see), saying he was “thinking about suicide” and spiralling into heavy drug use.
“I went from being on top of the world, No. 1 songs, being kind of like America’s sweetheart to being public enemy No. 1,” says Brown. “If there was ever a doubt in your mind that Chris Brown was done, he was finished… I wouldn’t bet on it.”
The doc, directed by Andrew Sandler and produced by Riveting Entertainment, is made up of interviews and commentary from Brown’s friends and family, including his mother, Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Foxx and Mary J. Blige.
As of this writing, Welcome to My Life doesn’t have a release date.
