When not on-air, TV personalities are just like everyone else! We asked a few about their hobbies and this is what they said.
Global National’s Jacques Bourbeau is a “Jacques of all Trades”
My family owns a farm and I like to say that it’s my other full-time job. One of the many projects I have undertaken is to rebuild a 140-year-old barn. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s a labour of love I enjoy. If I did it right, that old barn has another century of life ahead of her.
HGTV Canada’s Jo Alcorn creates budget-friendly artwork
I’m not really a DIYer in regards to hobbies, however I really do enjoy taking photos of my surroundings, and then playing around with them in Photoshop to add different filters and create an abstract look. I then upload them to Posterjack and choose a mat and frame and in a week, I have a professional printed photo for any space. What I love is that it’s personal, budget-friendly, and I feel like a true artist to see my work framed! Plus, anyone can do it. I love doing it for client projects and then creating stunning feature walls for them to enjoy. Who said you had to invest a ton into art when you can create your own!
Jo Alcorn stars in HGTV Canada’s Home to Win, premiering April 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
The West Block’s Tom Clark is a high flyer
Flying isn’t just about challenging the laws of gravity, or about visiting a place in the sky. It isn’t all about relying solely on yourself, or discovering what freedom is. It’s not entirely about seeing the world in a way few can, nor about being, even briefly, a new pioneer, finding lakes and places that people have yet to discover. It isn’t just that magical moment when nature shows itself to you in a mystical way meant only for your eyes.
It’s not one of those. It’s all of them and more, because some things can never be described; only experienced.
Global National’s Jennifer Tryon has too many hobbies to choose from
When tasked with writing about my favourite hobbies, I felt stuck, overwhelmed, like trying to choose a favourite child. How? I’m a full blown maker. I make everything from quilts to cakes, cards, my kid’s clothes, wreaths, furniture and typically a big mess in the process. I guess my first love is sewing but I’m currently really addicted to lettering and modern calligraphy and making lettered prints with water colour. A little blog I started writing a while back has ballooned and social media has been a great way of picking up new craft addictions while sharing mine.
Global News BC’s Chris Gailus takes his hobby on the road
I am a born tinkerer, with the aptitude for fixing things passed down from my Opa (grandfather) and my dad. I also learned a love of automobiles from my dad so blending those two things keeps me busy tending to my old 1976 Ford Bronco. I’ve always loved the simple design and utility of these old vehicles and keeping mine in tip-top shape is a real joy.
Our family loves to go for summer drives (when I can take the top off) and cruise around in the open air.
Someday I will fully restore it, but for now it’s not too precious and we don’t mind getting it dirty. The kids in the neighbourhood love it too and I often take them on a bumpy ride up the alley. Lots of fun!
