Swift Current Mayor not seeking re-election

REGINA – The mayor of Swift Current says he won’t be seeking re-election in October.

Jerrod Schafer was first elected to Swift Current City Council in 2003 when he was 26-years-old.

He went on to become the youngest mayor in the city’s history in 2009.

He also works as an investment advisor and says that really is his dream job.

Schafer governed through a rat infestation in the city and most recently received a lot of media attention for the Safe Places, anti-abuse and sexual assault program that came out of the aftermath of the Graham James case.

Schafer says he’s now looking forward to spending more time with his wife and three children.
