Early Sunday morning, Wilmington residents in North Carolina were awakened by a loud explosion when part of a local coal-powered plant imploded.

According to Star News Online, planned? demolition collapsed one of three boilers from the Duke Energy Sutton Plant.

Duke Energy spokesperson Jeff Brooks told Star News Online that they were moving to a “cleaner, more efficient energy sources in North Carolina.”

Video of the demolition was released on Duke Energy’s YouTube page which includes slow motion footage of the implosion.

Duke Energy says they are replacing the coal-powered plant boilers with natural gas units and demolitions of the last two boilers should happen in May and the fall.
