A California man who climbed a steep rock face in search of a romantic place to propose to his girlfriend needed to be rescued Thursday morning after getting stuck.
Michael Banks, 27, ascended Morro Rock with the intent to use Facetime to ask his girlfriend to marry him, when he became stuck on a narrow ledge almost 200 metres up.
A witness heard Banks yelling for help, who then contacted rescue personnel.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter was needed to reach him, who was rescued without injury.
Banks’ girlfriend reportedly said “yes” to the proposal, but was upset by the stunt.
It’s not clear what kind of rock the groom-to-be will be able to afford to put on his girlfriend’s finger after he’s finished paying for the rescue, which is expected to cost him a few thousand dollars.
Banks is also facing charges for illegally hiking the dangerous cliff, which is a protected landmark, and has claimed the lives of at least four hikers in recent years.
