More than 2,500 people have lent their support behind the cause that would also include a small memorial with a bench and a plaque.

“Not only is it important to remember these precious children and their grandfather but it is also vital that we never forget the tragic consequences of drinking and driving,” the petition said.

Marco Muzzo was sentenced to 10 years in prison last month after the vehicle his was driving struck and killed a minivan in Vaughan, Ont., north of Toronto, in September with the Neville-Lake children inside.

“There is nothing that can bring these happy children, who were so full of life and promise, or their loving grandfather, back,” the petition reads. “Yet we want something to be done to ensure the Neville-Lake victims are never, ever forgotten.”

Officials in Mississauga, Ont. recently approved a motion to tweak the name of a park named after Muzzo’s grandfather.
