CORNER BROOK, N.L. – A western Newfoundland city is facing a growing bill of nearly $20,000 after about 200 cats were retrieved from a home last month.
SPCA spokesman Rod Lyver says the City of Corner Brook needs to come up with a policy to deal with people who hoard animals.

About 200 cats were trapped after city officials and animal rescue workers entered a bungalow on May 24.
About 40 cats have been euthanized and others have been adopted.
Lyver says if the remaining 100 cats cannot be adopted, they’ll have to be put down, which will cost the city more money.
Lyver says the cats are being neutered or spayed as they are adopted.
