44 cows killed in barn fire near Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. – A weekend barn fire near Waterloo in southern Ontario killed 44 cows.

The fire erupted Saturday night in the rural township of Woolwich, which is part of the regional municipality of Waterloo.

Reports say there were 45 cows in the wooden barn when the fire started, and that only one survived.

Investigators say they believe the fire was sparked by a hay blower.

Damage has been estimated as half a million dollars.
