MONTREAL – City crews and firefighters were on Peel St. in downtown Montreal Thursday night for yet another case of water flowing out of cracks in the city streets.
Streets were closed to traffic due to a new water main leak on Peel between Ste. Catherine St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd.
Montreal Fire Department Chief of Operations Frédéric Paquette said the leak was due to a water main break about 7:30 p.m.
Firefighters managed to stem the flow within an hour, he confirmed.

Metro service at nearby Peel station was not affected.
Peel St. was recently under repair for two other broken pipes under the street, one on the same block and the other a few blocks south at de La Gauchetière St.
City crews are also repairing Ste. Catherine St. at McGill College Ave., where a sewer pipe burst under the street this week.
On Thursday, crews poured cement into holes, apparently to fill the cavity underneath.
This sinkhole appeared just weeks after another huge one opened up on Sherbrooke Street, near McGill College.
Ville Marie Borough spokesperson Anik de Repentigny said officials will provide an update of the situation Friday.
Borough officials were contending with a further burst sewer pipe on St. Dominique on Thursday.
The city closed the street to traffic between Ste. Catherine St. E. and de Maisonneuve Blvd. E. and was still analyzing the situation late Thursday, de Repentigny said.
