There’s a new kid in town and he’s going after your spot. By the way, did we mention he’s only 10 years old?

Connolly Gamble was called up by the Winnipeg Jets just in time for Saturday afternoon’s practice at MTS Centre. The Calgary boy got the chance to skate with the team after being selected as a Make-A-Wish recipient.

Doctors discovered Gamble had a brain tumour while putting him through baseline concussion testing. Fortunately, the tumour is non-life threatening.

“He’s been through so much at such a young age,” said Lowry. “To see the smile on his face and to see the joy he got hanging around with the team and being able to share that with him was special.”

Connolly, a triplet, wanted to share Saturday’s skate with his closest friends so he asked if his two brothers could also join him on the ice.

“He had something and wanted his brothers to take part in that too,” said Lowry. “To get to see all three of them out there was remarkable. That a boy would think of something like that is so selfless.”

Lowry’s little sister has worked with all three Gamble boys in hockey camps back in Alberta. The Jets forward met Connolly last summer.

Connolly’s family also watched Friday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks and will be in attendance for Sunday’s matinee match versus the Anaheim Ducks.
