REGINA – The house fire that killed one woman in North Central was started by an electrical cord, officials said Monday.
Regina Fire and Protective Services (RPS) investigators said the fire at 1340 Montague Street was due to a failed electrical cord igniting nearby combustible material.
Firefighters were called the scene at 12:30 a.m. on March 19 when a passerby noticed the fire.
According to investigators, the fire started in the living room and firefighters were able to contain it to that area.
The damage to the house is considered moderate. The name and age of the woman who died have not been released.
RPS said the fire was unintentional and preventable. They are reminding residents to make sure electrical cords are not close to combustible material, like paper, plastic or clothes.
Cords that are covered with mats or other material can also be a fire hazard.
