CALGARY – Staff at an Airdrie, Alta. bakery are cleaning up the mess left behind by a smash and grab on Monday morning.
Police believe the break and enter at The Avenue Cakery and Bake Shoppe, located in the 660 block of 1 Avenue N.W., occurred just after midnight.
RCMP said the suspects used a rock to smash through the front glass door so they could get inside.
“We have a lot of cleanup to do,” the bakery said in a Facebook post. “We have no glass in our door and the big rock that was thrown through the front door to break in also smashed through our display case.”
Once inside the store, the thieves stole a cashbox with an undisclosed amount of money.
The business was closed Monday to fix the damage caused by the break in.
In 2011, the strip mall the bakery is located in suffered extensive damage when a truck barreled through a pair of neighbouring businesses.
