Winnipeg’s Matt Dunstone is returning home from the World Junior Curling Championship in Denmark with his second bronze medal in four years.
The Granite Curling Club skip doubled Switzerland 8-4 in the men’s third place game. Dunstone stole singles in the second and ninth ends. He also scored two points in both the fourth and sixth frames. Switzerland was only able to put up a deuce once in the loss in the seventh. The game was called following nine ends of play.
“To be third in the world sounds good but getting to represent your country and to be Team Canada is pretty cool in itself,” Dunstone told Curling Canada. “I hope that down the line we can be proud of this, especially as we weren’t playing our best for the entire week. I think how we went about today is what we can be really proud of.”
Dunstone also finished third in his World Junior Men’s Curling Championship debut in 2013. Scotland beat the United States to take this year’s title.
On the women’s side, Nova Scotia’s Mary Fay downed the USA 7-4 for Canada’s third straight gold medal.
