Russell Laight says despite repeat calls and emails to the Canadian Border Service Agency, he has not heard when or if he will be getting the ashes back of his deceased friend.

Laight was travelling from Britain to Nova Scotia when he was jailed in Newfoundland after a CBSA test on the ashes turned positive for ketamine. A second test carried out by Health Canada was negative for drugs.

The 41-year-old was allowed to continue flying from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia once he was released, but the ashes had to stay in Newfoundland.

Laight told Global News on Saturday that he has not heard where the ashes of his friend, Simon Darby are, or if they have been discarded. He is hoping to have more information in the coming days.
