WINNIPEG — In an effort to show support for a northern Manitoba community grappling with a suicide crisis, a volunteer group in Winnipeg is asking the public for help.

Pimicikamak Cree Nation, known as Cross Lake, issued a state of emergency Wednesday, after the community had six suicides in the last two months and 140 attempts in the last two weeks alone.

Winnipeg’s Bear Clan Patrol is hoping to collect donations for the First Nation.

“In light of the crisis unfolding before us I am putting a call out for donations for the youth,” the group wrote on its Faecbook page.
