Wynne, Tory celebrate groundbreaking on 1st crosstown LRT station

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Thursday that workers have broken ground on Keelesdale Station, the first to be constructed in the Eglinton -Crosstown LRT line – Mar 10, 2016

TORONTO – Premier Kathleen Wynne and Mayor John Tory marked a new phase in Toronto’s planned transit expansion Thursday, breaking ground on the first station on the Eglinton-Crosstown light rail transit line.

Tory and Wynne joined Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca for a brief announcement at Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue West, the future site of Keelesdale Station.

Keelesdale is the first of 25 stations planned for the 19-kilometre transit line, which will extend from Mount Dennis to Kennedy stations.

“Keelesdale Station and the Eglinton Crosstown are literally  part of a new era in Ontario,” Wynne said. “It’s the era of the greatest infrastructure investment we’ve ever seen in this province.”

Tory and Wynne praised the intergovernmental co-operation involved building and funding the $5.3 billion transit line.

“This proves what can happen when you work together,” said Tory. “This is a partnership. Gone are the days when we have decisions made and reversed, tunnels dug and filled in.”

The Crosstown LRT is currently slated for completion in 2021.
