POINTE-CLAIRE – $1.06: that’s the going rate for a litre of gas in Montreal on Wednesday morning.
Prices jumped up almost 20 cents overnight.
On Saint-Jean Boulevard in Pointe-Claire, drivers were begrudgingly paying the price.
“My mother just filled up, but I will be filling up my car tonight. I’m not too fond about the price,” said one customer.

This latest price hike comes just days after CAA-Quebec called some price hikes unjustified and excessive.
It has drivers feeling like they’ve been ripped off.
“From 90 cents to 106.16 cents difference, that’s huge,” said one man.
“I think we’re getting ripped off, to be honest with you. It’s unbelievable. It goes up and down like a yo-yo,” said another.
CAA-Quebec said prices are above the norm and they advise against filling up.

Off-island, it’s a different story.
The average cost for a litre of gas in the Monteregie: 90.3 cents.
It’s even lower in the Laurentians at 90 cents.
Even with the hike, costs are still below last year’s average of $1.16, which was already a bargain compared to the year before.
“What we saw in 2015 is that there was a decrease in price at the pump, so that’s the good news,” said Anne-Sophie Hamel with CAA-Quebec.
“The average price decreased about 20 cents, so for motorists, that means anywhere between $240 to $500 that they didn’t have to pay for gas, which is good.”
