Saskatchewan election results 2016: Sask. Party wins Kelvington-Wadena riding

A look at Kelvington-Wadena, one of the 61 provincial electoral districts in the 2020 Saskatchewan election.

Hugh Nerlien of the Sask. Party has won the Kelvington-Wadena riding with 4,962 votes beating out the NDP’s Danny Hiscock who got 1,309 votes.

Summary: With stalwart MLA June Draude stepping down after 21 years in the legislature, Kelvington-Wadena will elect a rookie MLA on April 4.

Boundaries: A large rural riding to Saskatoon’s east, Kelvington-Wadena includes the Fishing Lake First Nation and Yellow Quill First Nation. Outside of Kelvington and Wadena, the largest communities are Wynard, Foam Lake, and Porcupine Lake.

Last Election: Draude defeated NDP candidate Graham Reid by over 3900 votes, 79-18 per cent.

History: The riding elected candidates from the governing party from 1971 until 1995, when voters selected Draude, who was then with the Liberal Party. She helped form the Saskatchewan Party in 1997, and had been elected four times since.

Green: Owen Swiderski, Youth Chair for the Green Party of Saskatchewan

Liberal: Bernie Yuzdepski

PC: Timothy Gerald Atchinson, owner of Atchy’s Saloon in Lintlaw

Western Independence Party: Walter Hrappsted
