Spring? Not quite yet here in Manitoba

WINNIPEG — Sunshine, and melting snow. A combination Winnipegger’s love to see at this time of year.

But in her usual ways of always keeping us guessing, Mother Nature is throwing in a couple of curve balls as we head into the last weekend of February.

Friday in the city we surpassed our forecasted high of 2 Celsius and made it to 3 C by late afternoon. But don’t reach for your shorts too quickly.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

While we enjoy the warm front that is passing through it won’t last long. By the time Sunday night rolls around it will feel considerably colder .

A low of -16 C is forecast and even though that is the normal for this time of year, compare it to Friday night’s low of -3 C and there’s a big difference.

Spring doesn’t hit until March 20 and as we kick off that month we are looking at overnight temperatures between -17 C and -20 C over the next couple of days.

Daytime highs will range from just below seasonal at -7 C to a cooler -13 C.

We can also expect some light snow to move through Winnipeg and parts of the province Saturday evening.

The good news is, you can likely leave the shovel where it is with only two centimetres forecast for Winnipeg
