Langford resident and 85-year-old veteran Robert Wright has a new fence – and a new appreciation for his neighbours.
“I’m quite shocked, and certainly appreciative,” he said, after community members repaired his white picket that had been repeatedly vandalized.
“I’m very pleased about it.”
Wright had been phoning police and putting signs on the fence for weeks, hoping it would stop the vandalism. And while the attacks on the fence continued, people in Langford took notice.
“We came across the story, and it called out to me,” said Lyle Jordan.
“We wanted to put a stop to that.”
Hundreds have since stepped up to volunteer or offer their services. Wright’s front yard will be landscaped, and security cameras are being installed. He’s even getting a new pair of glasses from Mayfair Optical – all for free.
“Me and my guys are going to spray the fence,” said Brayden Leclaire with Cut Above the Rest Painting.
“It’s pretty awesome to see that all of Victoria is involved with this now.”
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for Wright.
