12-year-old struck by truck on highway east of Edmonton

A 12-year-old girl was struck by a pickup truck on Highway 855 shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Tofield RCMP said she was walking on a very dark section of the highway, near Holden, when she was hit by a truck heading south.

The girl was taken to the University of Alberta Hospital. Details about her condition or the severity of her injuries were not released.

There is an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Officers are reminding pedestrians to walk on the shoulder of the road, facing oncoming traffic and to wear bright or reflective clothing.

Holden is about 100 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
