LETHBRIDGE- Ag Expo is Western Canada’s premier agriculture show that’s been happening in Lethbridge for over 100 years and is set to run for the next three days. It’s one of Alberta’s oldest and most popular agriculture shows, displaying the latest and most innovative technology.

Area residents will have a chance to see what’s new in the agriculture industry, with 350 indoor exhibits from across North America, including 40 new exhibitors.

“That’s another reason why this show is so popular, because it’s one of the last of the season,” Doug Kryzanowski, with Exhibition Park, said. “A lot of people can make their last-minute deals before crops and decide what they need for machinery.”

The collapse in the oil industry in Alberta has many people on the hunt for work, and some are coming to Ag Expo looking for that job. Shane Thomas with Richardson International says the trucking industry is seeing a huge increase in job applicants.

“Some of the trucking industry could see an increase in job applicants and a little more people to hire,” Thomas said. “They were struggling before and some of the areas of our company have seen an increase in the number of applications and the ease in finding suitable candidates.”

Others in the agricultural industry are looking for a wide range of skill sets from entry level, right up to skilled trade, degree, and Master’s degree. Organizers are expecting at least 20,000 people to come through the gates of Lethbridge’s Exhibition Park.
