TORONTO — Police have recovered the body of a second University of Guelph student killed in an apparent kayaking accident on the Credit River in Caledon, Ont.
Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday that officers located the body of Zachary Michael Sutherland, 21, a fourth-year commerce major, at about noon Tuesday. Sutherland had been missing since Sunday.
The university said in a statement Monday that 21-year-old Kaya Melanie Firth, a third-year English student, had been killed in the accident and OPP said her body had been recovered in the Terra Cotta Conservation Area on Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened by this news,” said president Franco Vaccarino. “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families of these two vibrant young people.”
Counselling services were being provided to students and employees and the university said it planned to lower campus flags to half-mast in honour of the two students.
OPP officers, an underwater search and recovery unit, an emergency response team, a canine unit and aviation services had been searching the Terra Cotta area of the Credit River for Sutherland since Sunday.
Police are warning the public to be aware of dangers in or around open water in the wake of the accident.
“When swimming, fishing, or boating, be aware of the water level and check upstream frequently for any sign of increasing currents,” OPP said in a statement.
“If the water level is rising or the flow is speeding up, get out of the water.”
