Dennis Oland has been denied bail pending the appeal of his second-degree murder conviction.
Oland was sentenced last week to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years in the 2011 bludgeoning death of his father, Richard Oland.

Justice Marc Richard delivered his decision on bail to a full courtroom on Wednesday after hearing arguments from the defence and Crown last week.
Defence lawyer Alan Gold argued Oland is willing to abide by all conditions and that his client’s mother and uncle are willing to post $400,000 surety.

The Crown argued it’s not in the public’s interest to have a convicted murderer released into the community unless there are exceptional circumstances.
There have been only 21 cases in Canada where convicted murderers have been granted bail while awaiting appeal.
Difficult to accept
Family members Connie and Lisa Oland said in a statement Wednesday that the decision is “difficult to accept.”
“We know Dennis has been wrongly convicted and are confident our appeal will see justice prevail,” the statement reads.
The family maintains they’re committed to to see the appeal through and “pursuing every option to prove Dennis’s innocence.”
