VERNON — The North Okanagan Naturalists Club wrapped up its Great Backyard Bird Count with bald eagle sightings.

Claude Rioux, the club’s director, says the bird count was down and believes the animals were seeking shelter from the chilly weather.

But despite this, members were able to see some bald eagles.

“In the Commonage, we came across an area where we spotted over a dozen bald eagles, both adults and immatures. They were rather impressive to see whether perched in a tree or flying overhead,” says Rioux.
