Man charged after Saskatoon police dog tracks stolen vehicle

SASKATOON – Police in Saskatoon ended up getting their man on the weekend, just not the one they were looking for. Officers originally went to a home in the 10-block of Macdermid Crescent after receiving a report on Feb. 14 that a wanted man was in the basement.

When officers were allowed by the homeowner to search the residence, they found a different man who was wanted on several outstanding warrants. During the ensuing investigation, officers determined the man had arrived at the house in a stolen vehicle.

A police dog tracked the vehicle from the house to the 2600-block of Monroe Avenue. It was also found to have a stolen licence plate. Police say they recovered the keys to the vehicle inside the Macdermid Crescent house.

The 30-year-old man is now charged with possession of stolen property and breach of a conditional sentence.
