Over the past week, music artist Kanye West released his new album The Life of Pablo on streaming service Tidal and launched the latest iteration of his fashion line Yeezy Season 3.
In that time, West has been very active on his Twitter account, leaving people scratching their heads as to whether his sporadic avalanches of tweets are legit or not. Is it all a ploy for attention? Is he sincere? Is the perceived millionaire actually $53 million in debt, as he claimed on Sunday?

Things culminated in an unpredictable series of tweets just before the 58th Annual Grammy Awards started up on Monday — these tweets were specifically directed at what West deemed “white publications” covering and commenting on black music. West asked for publications like The New York Times and Rolling Stone to stop writing about it.
He goes on to say that white people “don’t understand what it’s like to be the great-grandson of an ex-slave” and be as successful as he is.
He claims that music is one of the “only ways out” for black people.

West doesn’t elaborate on what caused him to accuse the publications. Later, he wrote that his new music would never appeal on Apple Music, only on Tidal.
It had been assumed that West would be attending the Grammys on Monday night, but he tweeted that he would only attend if he was awarded Best Album of the Year.
