WINNIPEG — For single people, Valentine’s Day may not be their favourite “holiday” of the year. However, new figures released by Statistics Canada show if you’re single in Winnipeg, it may not be you, it could be the numbers.
According to the latest data from Statistics Canada, there are nearly 22,000 more single women than men in the city’s dating pool.
Single women make up 138,640 people in Winnipeg where there are only 116,795 single men.

Women start to outnumber men around age 25 in Winnipeg. But for every year they get older the disparity grows.
“When you look at the 50+ dating pool, single women significantly outnumber single men,” said matchmaker Lianne Tregobov. “Quality women far outnumber quality men.”
If you’re searching for someone with a post-secondary education level, the dating pool gets even smaller.
Statistics Canada data shows at last count, there were about 11,000 more women than men who reported having some post-secondary education in Winnipeg.
Holly, a 40-year-old single woman in Winnipeg is one of those statistics but is hoping this weekend may make for a lucky change.
Holly is taking part in a dating game at the Manitoba Man Show Expo taking place the Red River Exhibition Place. One man will have a dinner date that night with Holly, who Tregobov said is an incredible catch.
