Hamilton man charged after trespasser fatally shot while trying to steal truck

HAMILTON – Police in Hamilton say a 26-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a trespasser was shot and killed.

Investigators say a trespasser was seen at a home in Hamilton’s Binbrook neighbourhood early Thursday morning.

Officers were told it was believed the man, identified as 29-year-old Jonathon Dwight Styres of Oshweken, Ont., was attempting to steal a truck in the driveway.

Police say a resident confronted the man while armed with a firearm and that the man allegedly attempting to steal the truck died of gunshot-related injuries.

Homicide detectives say Peter Khill has been charged with second-degree murder.
