Did a raccoon suffer heartache seeing friend dead in street?

Raccoons are making headlines in Toronto again after a video went viral of a raccoon either trying to help or possibly cannibalize a deceased raccoon on a Toronto street last month.

A video posted to YouTube by A Ka on Jan. 30, shows what appears to be a dead raccoon on Oakwood Avenue.

In the video, another raccoon appears to be trying to wake the motionless raccoon by shaking it and making loud noises.

The video starts with the raccoon already appearing deceased in the street and has lead to a debate online as to whether the raccoon is trying to help their fellow raccoon or was it trying to eat it.

It’s hard to fathom that a raccoon would risk itself for a meal considering most are afraid of humans and will often run in the other direction.

Then again, in the recent months we’ve seen several brazen raccoons around the Toronto area riding the subway, stealing donuts and checking out the waterfront.

Since we can’t interview the raccoon on its true intentions, we’ll leave it as the feel good video many are seeing it as.
